The Aga Khan Health Service, Tanzania (AKHST); an institution of The Aga Khan Development Network, completed a major phase II expansion of the Aga Khan Hospital, Dar es Salaam in 2018.
This expansion aimed at improving the Hospital’s quality of facilities and infrastructure to become an ultramodern 170 bed facility to increase its capacity as a provider of high-quality medical care leading to a tertiary care, referral and teaching hospital.
Recommended:
The Phase II development focused on expanding key clinical services including a comprehensive cardiology programme, oncology services and neurosciences, as well as the expansion of Orthopedics and Trauma, Diagnostic Imaging, Critical Care and Women and Child Health programmes.

The Hospital is JCI Accredited (achieved a level of quality and patient service that is equal to the best hospitals in the world) and the teaching site for The Aga Khan University, which offers Postgraduate Medical Education programs leading to Master of Medicine in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology and Paediatrics and Child Health.


It is also an accredited internship site. As part of the integrated health systems approach, AKHST plans to establish 35 outreach health facilities that are located across Tanzania. Currently, 20 such clinics have been established across the country and linked the main hospital in Dar es Salaam.
We are seeking for enthusiastic, qualified and experienced Senior anaesthesiologist as indicated below

Senior Anaesthesiologist - (1 POSITION)
REPORTING TO
HEAD OF ANAESTHESIA
POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for offering high skilled peri-operative patient care, including but not limited to patient optimization preoperatively, intraoperative anaesthetics provision with patient safety management and managing post-operative pain and anaesthesia related complications as well as delivery of procedural sedation in remote areas.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Running preoperative anesthesia clinic for patient assessment and optimization before procedures
  • Patients and families education on anaesthesia provision, risks associated, benefits and obtaining anaesthesia consents pre-operatively
  • Complete documentation of patients’ histories, assessment, risk stratification, anaesthetics, vitals, complications and management accordingly
  • Administrations of anaesthetics gases and medications peri-operatively
  • Continuous monitoring of vital signs intraoperatively and managing complications.
  • Pain management through different modalities, regional blocks, intravenously, epidural catheters etc.
  • Skills in Total Intravenous Aneasthesia (TIVA)
  • The use of bispectral index and Entropy for TIVA depth monitoring
  • Blind and ultrasound guided invasive lines insertion such as central lines, Swan Ganz catheters, arterial lines and peripheral vascular access
  • Blind and ultrasound guided regional block anaesthesia
  • Procedural sedation outside the operating theatres such as imaging rooms(MRI room and paediatric CT scans), endoscopies, bronchoscopies and bedside procedural sedation
  • Expertise in various anaesthesia sub-specialties including but not limited to obstetrics anaesthesia, both elective and emergency procedures, gynaecology, general surgery, laparoscopies, vascular, neurosurgery, orthopedic surgery, ophthalmology, ENT, paediatric/neonatal surgery, urology and day surgery.
  • Participating in code blues state of emergency that may occur at different areas of the hospital.
  • Participating in weekly CME and other departmental meetings
  • Any other roles assigned by the Supervisor or Designee.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum Master of Medicine in Anaesthesiology from a recognized University
  • Must be registered by the Medical Council of Tanganyika
  • Must have valid practicing License from Medical Council Of Tanganyika
  • Minimum of Six(6)years of relevant experience working as Anaesthesiologist.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatrics Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Providers (NRP)
