1.0 Introduction
Dar es Salaam Tumaini University (DarTU) is undergoing strategic re-engineering and rebranding to stay abreast of emerging developments in media, communication, linguistics, and the digital information age. As part of this transformation, DarTU aims to strengthen its academic and technological capacity to address emerging trends that are critical to shaping the future of Journalism, Mass Communication, Linguistics, Digital knowledge, and Information Management in Tanzania and beyond. In pursuit of this goal, DarTU seeks to recruit qualified, dynamic, and proactive candidates for the following positions:
(i) Lecturer in Linguistics (1 Post)Dar es Salaam Tumaini University (DarTU) is undergoing strategic re-engineering and rebranding to stay abreast of emerging developments in media, communication, linguistics, and the digital information age. As part of this transformation, DarTU aims to strengthen its academic and technological capacity to address emerging trends that are critical to shaping the future of Journalism, Mass Communication, Linguistics, Digital knowledge, and Information Management in Tanzania and beyond. In pursuit of this goal, DarTU seeks to recruit qualified, dynamic, and proactive candidates for the following positions:
(ii) Assistant Lecturer in Linguistics (1 Post)
(iii) Lecturer in Journalism and Mass Communication (1 Post)
(iv) Assistant Lecturer in Journalism and Mass Communication (1 Post)
(v) Assistant Lecturer in Library and Information Studies (2 Posts)
(vi) Computer Laboratory Scientist/Engineer III (1 Post)

2.0 Position Description, Qualification, Duties and Responsibilities
1. Lecturer in Linguistics (1 Post)
Qualifications and Experience- Possession of a PhD, Master’s, and Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics or a closely related field, including Applied Linguistics, Sociolinguistics, Language Education, Phonetics, Syntax, Semantics, Pragmatics, Computational Linguistics, or Language Policy, from accredited higher learning institutions.
- A GPA of at least 4.0 out of 5 or B+ score in Master’s Degree and a minimum GPA of 3.5 out of 5 in Bachelor Degree or its equivalent.
- Demonstrated competence in core areas of linguistics such as phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, sociolinguistics, Kiswahili studies, language policy, and language education.
- Strong command of spoken and written English is essential.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver lectures, tutorials, and practical sessions.
- Lead the development and revision of course content and assessments to alignment with industry trends and academic standards.
- Prepare, administer, and grade assessments, quizzes, and exams; provide constructive feedback to students.
- Conduct and publish independent or collaborative research.
- Supervise and mentor undergraduate and postgraduate students in research projects, theses, and dissertations.
- Provide academic guidance and mentorship to students in their studies and career development.
- Engage in continuous professional development through workshops, seminars and conferences.
- Collaborate with colleagues across disciplines in research initiatives, course development, and academic events.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
2. Assistant Lecturer in Linguistics (1 Post)
Qualifications and Experience- Possession of a Master’s and a Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics or Language Studies from accredited higher learning institutions.
- A GPA of at least 4.0 out of 5 or B+ score in Master’s Degree and a minimum GPA of 3.5 out of 5 in Bachelor Degree or its equivalent.
- Strong command of spoken and written English is essential.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Deliver lectures and tutorials under the guidance of senior staff.
- Assist in course material preparation and assessments.
- Participate in departmental research and academic activities.
- Support students in academic projects and provide academic advice.
- Pursue professional development and attend departmental meetings.
3. Lecturer in Journalism and Mass Communication (1 Post)
Qualifications and Experience- Possession of a PhD, Master’s, and Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Mass Communication, or a closely related field from accredited higher learning institutions.
- A GPA of at least 4.0 out of 5 or B+ score in Master’s Degree and a minimum GPA of 3.5 out of 5 in Bachelor Degree or its equivalent, working experience.
- Expertise in teaching, participation in relevant research and publications.
- Preferred areas of expertise include Newspaper Journalism, News Writing and Reporting, Print Media Production, Media Ethics, Media Law, Digital Media, and Emerging Communication Trends.
- Familiarity with core journalism subjects such as Newspaper Journalism, News Writing and Reporting, Print Media Production, Media Ethics, Media Law, Digital Media, and Emerging Communication Trends.
- Strong command of spoken and written English is essential.

Qualifications and Experience- Possession of Masters and Bachelor of Arts in Library and Information Studies or information systems, or in a related field from accredited higher learning institutions.
- A GPA of at least 4.0 out of 5 or B+ score in Master’s Degree and a minimum GPA of 3.5 out of 5 in Bachelor Degree or its equivalent.
- Knowledge in digital libraries, information management systems, library automation tools or software, data organization, or database management is highly recommended.

6. Computer Laboratory Scientist/Engineer III (1 Post)
Qualifications and Experience- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field from accredited institutions.
- A minimum GPA of 3.5 out of 5 in Bachelor Degree or its equivalent.
- Relevant technical experience in a university ICT laboratory.
- Support teaching in programming, networking, cybersecurity, and AI tools.
- Certifications in networking, cybersecurity, cloud computing, or AI tools are preferred.
- Ability to design, develop, install, and maintain databases, networks, and websites.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain computer laboratories.
- Ensure all systems, networks, and software are functional.
- Assist lecturers and students during practical sessions.
- Install and configure relevant software and tools.
- Maintain security protocols and system updates.
- Provide technical assistance for academic and research projects.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
3.0 Remuneration
An attractive remuneration package will be offered to successful candidates, commensurate with their qualifications and experience.

4.0 Mode of Application

(iii) Certified copies of degree certificates (Master’s, Bachelor’s), Form IV & VI National Examination Certificates, and Birth Certificate.

(v) Foreign certificates must be verified by NECTA (for O/A levels) and TCU (for university degrees).
