Environment, Health and Safety Manager
Environment, Health and Safety Manager at DP World March 2024
Job Function:
Drive efficiency in DP World business management processes through continual improvement in Quality, Heath, Safety, Environment and Training, in line with the relevant labour regulations and company health, safety and environment policies. Establish suitable policies and upgrade/change same as and when required. Collaborate with the Regional QHSE and Site operational teams to develop and implement a proactive QHSE strategy that focuses on reducing risk, preventing incidents, and delivering a best-in-class safety culture. Collaborate with the team to develop and implement measures related to occupational safety, ill-health management, accident prevention, and decarbonization strategy execution, as well as in-company environment practices.

Overseeing and implementing effective QHSE strategies, policies, and procedures to maintain a safe and compliant working environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Establish, implement, and proactively lead the review of the processes and procedures, standards and initiatives to continually improve the business performance, under Integrated Management System for ISO 9001 (Quality), ISO 14001 (Environment) & OHSAS 18001 (Safety). Add/upgrade Certification as and when required.
  • Plan and conduct management reviews, internal audits, and coordinate for external third-party certification audits, in the capacity of Management Representative (MR) and report on the performance of the management system to achieve continual improvement.

  • Plan and conduct management reviews, internal audits, and coordinate for external third-party certification audits, in the capacity of Management Representative (MR) and report on the performance of the management system to achieve continual improvement.
  • Lead regular root cause analysis, and trend analysis to identify areas for improvement and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain a comprehensive library of legislation and legal registers regarding operational requirements and ensure that our legal obligations are met in line with local legislation.
  • Play a lead role in promoting and developing safe work culture that embraces zero harm through health, safety and environmental awareness by stimulating active involvement and interaction at all organizational levels.
  • Conceive, lead and implement the S&E improvement plan and initiatives in coordination with the line management to meet the annual objectives including facilitation of appropriate QHSE programs.
  • Plan and conduct monthly QHSE committee meetings to measure the QHSE performance and appraise the management on the improvements to achieve Operational efficiency.
  • Monitor, collate and analyze data for trend analysis & statistics at regular intervals to achieve continual improvement on all aspects of QHSE and related training of personnel.
  • Provide advice and support to line management for conducting risk assessments and ensuring that operational risks are proactively and appropriately managed.
  • Ensure proper adherence to ICAM procedure for incident investigations and implement effective control measures for closure of the gaps identified to prevent recurrence.
  • Evaluate and ensure emergency response preparedness through regular emergency mock drills and upkeep of the emergency response procedures.
  • Coordinate with all governmental authorities related to QHSE to get all required approvals.
  • Develop and implement QHSE strategies, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with local, national, and international regulations and standards.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of safety programs, including hazard identification, risk assessment, incident investigation, and emergency response plans.
  • Conduct regular audits, inspections, and assessments to identify potential risks and areas for improvement.
  • Provide guidance and support to operational teams in implementing QHSE best practices and ensuring their adherence to safety protocols.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and deliver training programs on QHSE practices and procedures.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, regulations, and best practices related to port and terminal operations and QHSE management.

Qualifications:

  • Educational degree (Science – Engineering) or related.
  • Post Graduate qualification in Safety
  • NEBOSH Diploma in managing Health and Safety or equivalent certification.
  • Lead Auditor certification
  • Driving License

Experience:
  • 5-8 years’ work experience in the same role.
  • This is a key leadership role requiring expertise in port and terminal operations, logistics, warehouse management, and trucking.
  • Progressive experience performing professional level quality management duties; preferably in logistics industry.
  • Knowledge of ISO and other International Standards related to Quality, Environment and Occupational Health & Safety
  • Quality Management System Experience and Knowledge
