Facilitator – ASRHR at Maternity Africa October, 2023
Maternity Africa (www.maternityafrica.org) is a local, donor-funded, Christian nonprofit NGO registered in Tanzania. It is devoted to helping make childbirth safe and to treating obstetrical fistula and other birth-induced injuries. We support local communities, provide information to keep mothers and babies healthy, as well as excellent medical care and training to help ensure safer deliveries.

FACILITATOR – ADOLESCENT SEXUAL AND REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH AND RIGHTS (ASRHR)
Sexual and reproductive health education in primary and secondary schools is a crucial component of both economic and social development. It is essential for raising awareness of sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and for addressing and preventing adolescents’ risky sexual behaviours. Consequences of such behaviours include sexually transmitted diseases (such as HIV/AIDS), unwanted teenage pregnancies and dangerous abortions.

Disparities in sex education practices are holding back ongoing efforts to reverse the trend of teenage pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases. Urgent action is required to help teach adolescents about their sexual and reproductive health and rights.

Based outside the city of Arusha, Maternity Africa (www.maternityafrica.org) provides maternal health care services to vulnerable and marginalized women and girls of childbearing age. From day-to-day experience, Maternity Africa recognizes many of the problems associated with poor SRHR education among the local adolescent population.

Maternity Africa recently commenced the second year of an ASRHR training and education programme. The programme will design and deliver SRHR training for adolescents in schools, communities, churches, youth clubs and other facilities. The work will also involve some live radio broadcasts, social and print media.

Maternity Africa is seeking to expand the current training team to fill the role of FACILITATOR to co-deliver this exciting project. This role will be on a full-time consultancy basis for a period of up to six months.
