Management Assistant
MANAGEMENT ASSISTANT TO THE SOKNOT LANDSCAPE LEADER

WWF is seeking to hire a Management Assistant to the SOKNOT Landscape Leader to be based in Arusha, Tanzania

Major Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist the SOKNOT Coordinator with the coordination of all project activities, working with WWF, partner and government staff of different sectors (e.g. wildlife, forests, water, agriculture, livestock, lands) and a number of external experts and partners Support WWF field staff in project implementation and thematic activities such as human-wildlife- conflict (HWC) mitigation, participatory land use planning, sustainable rangeland management, eco- friendly business development, community-based natural resource management, wildlife and habitat conservation including river basins, agriculture and livestock and according to already established implementation protocols and strategies.
  • Assist the SOKNOT Coordinator with the consolidation of working relationships with important stakeholders such as community leaders and community-based organizations, women group representatives, local user groups, Government authorities, research institutions and other projects in the region.
  • Support the management of day-to-day operations, which include effective administration and tracking of project finances, procurement of goods and services accruing to donor regulations and WWF’s internal policies, project monitoring and evaluation, timely reporting to WWF and donors and the effective coordination and cooperation between project partners and more importantly strengthening the landscape M&E.
  • In collaboration with Partnership and Fundraising Manager, assist with the development and review of concept notes, project proposals, work-, budget- and monitoring plans according to WWF and donor standards.
  • Report regularly and flag important issues for follow-up by the SOKNOT Landscape Coordinator.
  • In collaboration with the TOO and KCO ESSF Advisors, assist technical staff with the implementation of WWF’s Environmental and Social Safeguard Framework including free, prior and informed consent of target groups, the implementation and monitoring of safeguards according to WWF’s ESSF Framework, the mitigation of identified risks and the establishment of a grievance mechanisms in close cooperation with the respective WWF focal persons.

Required Qualifications and skills
  • A postgraduate qualification (MSc), knowledge and experience in a relevant discipline (e.g. natural sciences, social sciences, conservation biology, landscape ecology, agroecology, green economy, conservation planning, agriculture and livestock or related field), a PhD qualification would be an advantage, At least 5 years of professional experience in relevant sectors, At least 2 years of experience of working in complex programs with multiple and diverse implementation partners and stakeholders with cross-cutting themes and multiple objectives. At least 2 years of experience in program development and management, including preparing and managing sizable and complex budgets, technical and financial reporting, matrix working, program monitoring and evaluation, and ensuring compliance with donor requirements for implementation. Professional experience in the Kenya/Tanzania border area would be of advantage

Policy Advocacy and Governance Advisor
POLICY ADVOCACY AND GOVERNANCE ADVISOR

WWF is seeking to hire the Policy Advocacy and Governance Advisor for SOKNOT Transboundary Landscape to be based in Arusha, Tanzania

Major Functions:
Under the supervision and guidance of the SOKNOT Program Coordinator, the policy advocacy and governance advisor will provide support for further development of a conducive policy framework and for the establishment and effective operation of transboundary Governance structures.

Major Duties and Responsibilities
  • Establish a register of current Government policies relevant to the effective implementation of a multi­sectoral transboundary program. This will include all relevant national policies on wildlife, forests, water, agriculture, livestock, land use, environmental and social impact assessments, rural development incl. rural infrastructure, social policies including human rights, transboundary agreements as well as other international policies and conventions Tanzania is a signatory of (e.g. on human rights, climate change, forest landscape restoration, CITES, biodiversity and others). The register will include contact details of IGovernment Authorities responsible for the further development and implementation of such policies, focal persons that will serve as direct liaisons for WWF policy support as well as legal and technical experts previously involved in policy work and recognized by the respective Government organizations as expert advisors
  • Establish and maintain trustful, permanent and cooperative working relationships with Government authorities, focal persons and experts mentioned
  • above to coordinate policy work and to clarify and consolidate WWF’s position and visibility in related policy development processes
  • Attend relevant Government and stakeholder meetings to be informed and updated on the status of current and planned policy development processes and to represent and communicate WWF’s views and ambitions
  • Cooperate closely with the project teams and country offices in Kenya and Tanzania, with the WWF Regional Office in Nairobi and with WWF National Offices involved in and contributing to the SOKNOT UNGANISHA program to ensure proper coordination with similar activities of other projects and programs, alignment with WWF’s own internal policies, consensus on important policy aspects and contributions to new concept notes and proposals for further fundraising

Required Qualifications and skills
  • A postgraduate qualification (MSc/PhD) in social studies preferably in law, political science or similar subjects related to policy work and legal advice, At least 10 years of professional experience as lawyer or legal/policy advisor in relevant sectors, specific expertise related to policy work in wildlife, forests, water, agriculture or livestock sectors would be of advantage, At least 5 years of experience of working in complex programs with multiple and diverse implementation partners and stakeholders with cross­cutting themes and multiple objectives. Professional experience in the Kenya/Tanzania border area would be of advantage
