Job Description
Background
UNDP is the UN’s global development network whose focus is to help countries build and share solutions to the challenges of sustainable development as informed by the 2030 sustainable development agenda. The overall focus for UNDP Tanzania is to support the Government of Tanzania to improve lives of the people through strategic programmatic areas of inclusive democratic governance, inclusive economic growth and sustainable livelihoods and environment sustainability, climate change and resilience.

Under the guidance and direct supervision of the communication and partnership analyst and overall guidance from pillar heads, the communication intern will support the implementation of the Partnership and Communication Action Plan (PCAP) to increase UNDP Tanzania’s visibility, market successful projects, document successes and best practices, improve internal communication and strengthen media relations to keep the public and stakeholders (including
government, civil society, other UN agencies, private sector, development partners) informed about our role and activities. Communication is central for UNDP to effectively carry out its duties with and among its stakeholders.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Under the direct supervision of the UNDP Communications and Partnership Analyst the intern will be responsible for the following.
  • Overall media monitoring on UNDP related issues, including in creating an updated media and partners contact list;
  • Support communication team in implementation of the UN communications strategy and UNDP’s PCAP; creating public awareness on the effectiveness and impact of the UNDP’s work in Tanzania; maintenance and updating of the UNDP website and social media pages, preparation of press releases, media advisories, talking points, speeches, web content, articles and general correspondence, among others;
  • Assist the communication team in the organization of key events and communication opportunities, such as major conferences, workshops, discussions and report launches. Including graphic designing of reports, infographics, case studies;
  • Analytics compiling and reporting, including creating a knowledge repository of communication and partnership related aspects for the organization.;
  • Research and monitor relevant websites and social media channels as needed to feed content into the work of the communications team;
  • To undertake other assignments as may be decided from time to time by the supervisors

  • Knowledge on using the following Apps/application will be an advantage – Canva, Hootsuite, Trelloboard, Campaign Monitor
  • knowledge of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the UN’s work in Tanzania is an advantage.

Recruitment Qualifications
Education:

  • UNDP may accept interns providing the following conditions are met:
Enrollment:
  • Candidates who are currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree are eligible to apply. Candidates who have obtained a bachelor’s degree and are currently enrolled in other academic programmes are also eligible;
  • Have completed at least two years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a degree, if pursuing their studies in countries where higher education is not divided into undergraduate and graduate stages;
  • Not have graduated prior to the beginning of the internship.

Skills

Conditions:

  • Interns are considered gratis personnel. They are not staff members.
Stipends, insurance and interns’ expenses:
  • The monthly amount of the stipend as determined by the office based on the stipend rates published yearly by the OHR Policy and Compensation Unit;
  • The stipend will be paid on a monthly basis and part-time internship arrangements are prorated accordingly;
  • Where an intern is financially supported by an institution, government or third party, UNDP will, subject to the rules of such institution, government or third party, pay the intern the difference, if any, between the external financial support provided and the applicable UNDP stipend;
  • No other payments of any kind will be made to an intern by the office in connection with an internship agreement;
  • Interns will accrue leave at the rate of 1 1⁄2 days per month. Any accrued leave days not used by the end of the internship will be forfeited. Any unjustified absences during the internship period exceeding a total of nine days, will be deducted from the monthly stipend;
  • Interns are responsible for securing adequate medical insurance for the duration of their internship with UNDP and must provide a medical certificate of good health prior to starting the internship. UNDP will not reimburse the medical insurance of the intern. Any costs arising from accidents and illness incurred during an internship assignment will be the responsibility of the intern;
  • UNDP accepts no responsibility for loss or damage to personal effects that may occur during the internship.
