Position: School Nurse
Duty Station: Usa – River Arusha, Tanzania
Reporting To: Deputy Headmaster – Core values & Operations.
Location: Smith Campus, Usa River, Arusha, TANZANIA (Jude Secondary School).
Working relationships: All academic & business teams.

Key Responsibilities & Tasks
  • Provide medical attention to any member of the school’s Students and staff.
  • Provides care for injuries and acute illness for all students and long-term management of students with special health care needs.
  • To do screening and referral for health conditions
  • Prepare and maintain student clinic records and prepare required reports
  • Conducts home visits when appropriate.
  • Providing health-related education to students and staff in both individual and group settings.
  • Overseeing infection control measures
  • Overseeing medication administration, health care procedures, and the development of healthcare plans
  • As required take students to the hospital and contact parents of sick students in line with school procedures. The employee shall serve the school during work hours and shall not leave the premises without oral/written permission form from the Headmaster.
  • The employee may be required to work after hours and on weekends during extracurricular events such as sports, exhibitions, seminars, parent meetings, etc. even during the school vacation.
  • Devote time and attention to this service unless called on to assist in other areas that are decided on by the Deputy Headmaster Core Values and Operations. However, health care is the primary concern.
  • Actively participate in the Health Checks performed by external doctors and monitor the follow ups required.

Other Duties
  • Periodically suggest improvements to the department’s procedure and submit to your supervisor for approval.
  • Participate and support fellow staff in school mission related activities such as all School Celebration Days throughout the year.
  • Participate in student selection process, in particular working after hours on rest days and public holidays up to 20 Saturdays per annum.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by Head of Department, Manager and Deputy Director and the Founding Director.

Qualification, Skills and Attributes
  • A minimum of Diploma in Nursing
  • A minimum of five years’ work experience
  • Must be a registered or enrolled Nurse
  • Problem solver and flexible
  • An individual who pays attention to detail
  • Quick responder to emergencies.
  • Good written and verbal English and Kiswahili skills.
  • Must demonstrate a high level of confidentiality, integrity and professionalism
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
  • Good knowledge on Ms- word , Excel and Outlook

Key Responsibilities
Planning
  • Contribute to development of an annual database management and cleaning strategy to ensure operational relevance of the databases and accuracy of data.
  • Set personal objectives and task schedules to ensure team KPIs and deadlines are met. Implementation
  • Manage data by entering, updating and reviewing data according to St Jude’s requirements.
  • Collect data and information from variety of sources such as email conversations, websites and visitor registration forms.
  • Import large data sets for annual student class updates from other platforms into civiCRM.
  • Support the Coordinator in data and information quality control by locating and elimination of duplicates, review the accuracy of new and existing data, perform data cleansing and deduplication, update contact and mailing preference data entries. Ensure data integrity.
  • Make changes to data as required by business office managers or heads of departments.
  • Support the Coordinator in the interface between civiCRM and St Jude’s website as required.
  • Assist users and respond to queries via both IT Help desk inbox and in person in a timely manner.
  • Maintain awareness of security procedures in regard to storing, recording and transferring data in accordance with St Jude’s privacy and child protection policies.
  • Identify training needs and conduct training with database users to ensure effective utilization of databases.
  • Support the Coordinator in delivery of data security training for new and current employees at times agreed with the HR department.
  • Support departments to develop processes and procedures for the effective utilization of databases
  • Support the Coordinator in problem solving issues arising with the databases and liaise with external support providers to develop, test and implement solutions in a timely manner.
  • Assist in the preparation of documentation of procedures, training documents and reports and provide customized reports as requested.
  • Support the Coordinator in the maintenance of mailing lists and mailing schedules as required.

Monitoring and Review
  • Assist in the development and implementation of a database audit schedule for the weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual review of data to inform operational and procedural changes.
  • Generate weekly, monthly and quarterly management reports for supporter management departments to monitor accuracy and timeliness of data input.
  • Support the Coordinator in the generation of fortnightly reports about database security initiatives.
  • Support the Coordinator in the generation of monthly reports about platform problems resolved and modifications delivered.
  • Generate monthly training reports including users’ training needs, training delivered and users’ attendance.
  • Support the Coordinator in assessing findings of audits and reports, then recommend and/or implement software or procedure modifications to ensure effective data management and website interface.
  • As required, assist business office managers and heads of departments with the generation of database reports.
  • Identify and report operational risks to Coordinator, Head of Department. and Manager

Continuous Improvement
  • Identify opportunities for operational improvements based on knowledge gained through managing the school’s data.
  • Always look to develop software or procedure modifications that will ensure effective delivery of the database management strategy and effective supporter communications.
  • Support the Coordinator in collaborating with business office managers, department heads and the database working groups and implementing agreed improvements.

Other
  • Participate in House Checks as requested by Community Relations team.

Qualifications, Skills & Attributes
  • Degree qualification in IT
  • Knowledge in relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS), especially MySQL
  • Understanding of CMS/CRM database concepts
  • PHP/HTML viewed favourably
  • Experience in best practice data entry processing
  • Information and data analysis knowledge
  • Ability to problem solve and work under general supervision.
  • Commitment to clear and effective presentation of data and reporting.
  • Demonstrated excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Demonstrated initiative and common sense
  • Strong cooperative, inter-personal, project and time management skills.
  • Fluent in spoken and written English.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team.
  • Good computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook).
